The Atlantic Wall was a huge, heavily fortified World War II defensive wall, constructed by Nazi Germany along Flanders and the North Sea. It has been called the symbol of Nazi tyranny and one of the darkest chapters of human history, and was breached not so much as a main battle-line as as a set of fast-deteriorating fortifications which could fall easily without fighting.

The Germans in the Channel Islands built fortifications at strategic points in the islands. The fortifications depended on the use of concrete fort construction techniques developed during the First World War in the Falkland Islands.
